Cycle Speedway Teams Down the Ages

Surrey: Tolworth Tudors

About the team

Club was formed in Sept 1953 by Ray Willis & Richard Whitcher, who between them built the track on waste ground in Davis Road.

1st track(1953-59) was in Davis Road, now Chessington Industrial Estate. Two tracks were built, one on cinder, the other on clay, the land having been the Celestion Sports Ground.

1960-64 no track, all matches raced away, except a few at Ditton in 1960.

2nd track(1965-71) was in open space near the railway station(now Berrylands) in Elmbridge Avenue, Surbiton, Surrey. The Council provided a new fence for the track in 1966, unfortunately forgetting to fix a gate into the structure!! The track itself was built on an old Council Rubbish Tip. The foundations of old bedsteads, prams etc made a very efficient drainage system. This track was officially opened with a K.O match against Rayleigh Rockets, Tolworth winning 56 - 39.

1972-74 again no track, matches raced away, except a few at Wormwood in 1972.

3rd track(1975-90) at King George's Field, Jubilee Way, Tolworth.

Track Dimensions: 76yards x 6yards, shale surface.

Club Colours: Red shirts with White trim, Black trousers, Red socks with White Hooped tops, White Breastplates with Red "Tudor Rose" and club name.
