Cycle Speedway Teams Down the Ages

Avon: Southmead Bulldogs

About the team

Formed in the late 1940s, the 1st track was on a piece of wasteland behind Lanercost Road.

2nd track was not far from where the "Treble Chance" stands today, this being a cinder track(into the 50s).

The sport was revived in 1978 when a new track was built on the old bowling green at Doncaster Road Playing Fields.

4th track was built by the Council at the end of 1981 on the Doncaster Road Playing Fields, this being a red shale track.

It was at this period that they dropped the 'Bulldog' nickname, becoming the Southmead Avon Cosmetics Supplies CSC..
